The textbook to open our list is Cultura en España that undoubtedly deserves your attention. What so special about this book is that it gives you a great opportunity to learn Spanish through reading about Spanish culture, history and everyday life. You can think of Cultura en España as an amazing cultural guide which will take you through different aspects of Spanish life: how the Spanish work, get married and form families; what they like doing in their free time; what superstitions they believe in and how they celebrate special dates.
A significant part of the textbook is dedicated to history, geography, economy and even politics of Spain, which can give you a whole retrospective of what stages this country has gone through to become what it is now. When it comes to the language itself, Cultura en España also has something to offer you! There's a section called España e Iberamérica in the Política module dedicated to the Spanish language and its role in the world. The section of El lenguaje de jóvenes will be useful if you're interested in the colloquial Spanish, and there's a long list of examples. This glossary will help you a lot to be able to communicate with natives and be confident in many situations that require everyday vocabulary.
What you'll find at the end of the book is the Glocario that will help you understand some of the words you don't know yet and remember them. You won't find any English translation, you'll see explanation of each word in Spanish instead. I think it's a very good way of leaning new vocabulary, isn't it?
Moreover, this textbook has several exercises after each unit, so that you can check your knowledge and see if everything was clear. The Soluciones will be handy sometimes as well! Find them at the last pages of Cultura en España.
To sum up, this textbook is going to be very useful for both young and adult learners. That's a great tool to use in self-learning and as an additional material for teachers too!
The next textbook we're going to be looking at is called Aprende. In my view, it's just a perfect mix of grammar and vocab. Aprende consists of 35 grammar topics and 15 of vocabulary, which include such topics like cosas de casa, la salud, profesiones, tiempo libre, geografía, and others (those are the topics you'll have in the A2 Aprende!)
In the B1 level the subjects include something a bit more complex: formación de palabras, el cuerpo, expresiones idiomáticas, adjetivos de carácter, etc.
This textbook is good for both self-learning (there are keys at the end of the book) and using in a class if you're a teacher.
What I especially like about Aprende is that the grammar section is not just a plain grammar, but it's a great tool to learn new words and conversational phrases! All the examples are somehow related to everyday life, and the exercises you have after each unit will be an amazing source of new colloquial phrases as well!
And for the last, there's a lot of cultural information you'll find in the exercises - you'll read about Cervantes, Velázquez, Spanish film stars, and so on.
The book Todas las Voces is actually worth being placed on the first position on this list because in my opinion it's the best textbook you can get to learn Spanish! The purpose of Todas las Voces is to make you get to know the Hispanic world through Spanish learning. In its 12 themed units, you'll see a lot of (if not all!) cultural aspects of the Hispanic world - and it's not only about one culture, it's about many! You'll be able to know more about music, cinema, literature, history, art and much more of Spain, Argentina, Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries. Each unit offers you reading and listening activities, Internet research tasks, vocabulary to learn, exercises, etc. An amazing addition to every unit is the recommendations of films, books and websites that will also help you on your journey of Spanish learning!
When you're not sure what to read, what article would be appropriate and interesting to choose in order to practice your Spanish reading skills, don't doubt that this book will be a wonderful choice! After all, it's the culture that attracts us first before we start learning the language in most cases, right? So why don't you use the chance to know better and immerse yourself into the Spanish-speaking cultures?
And finally we have Aula Internacional, which by the way comes from the same publisher as our previous recommendation Todas las Voces - the Difusión. As you can imagine, those guys really like to offer us to immerse ourselves into language learning through culture of the Spanish-speaking courtiers... And they're doing it just fine!
The 12 units that Aula Internacional has are divided into 3 sections: - recursos comunicativos; - recursos gramaticales; - recursos léxicos. Apart from that, everything is somehow related to culture and colloquial speech: every unit brings a lot of information about cultural codes of the Hispanic world, films to watch and books to read, gives you tasks related to everyday situations and problems you might face in real life and trains you to face them in Spanish.
This textbook is better to use if you're learning Spanish with a tutor, but if you're a self-learner, you can give it a go too! That's what I'm doing myself, and it works absolutely fine for self-learning, in my view. If you're a teacher, be sure to get a teacher's guide for this book, you'll find loads of interesting and useful materials as well.
